The luxury watch market is largely dominated by established Swiss companies and is becoming increasingly concentrated in the hands of few conglomerates controlling multiple watch brands.
How refreshing to see a new, independent, British watch company now competing with the best and most sought after luxury watch brands in the world.
Bremont watch company was started in 2002 by brothers Nick and Giles English, with the express aim ‘to make beautifully crafted watches of exceptional quality’.
They launched their first watch in 2007 and now the Bremont collection of luxury watches is sold all over the world, in prestigious stores and in four beautifully designed Bremont boutiques.
What makes Bremont watches so special? First is the design. Bremont don’t copy or try to imitate other watches. They have created a range of very attractive and distinctive watches with real personality.
But Bremont watches are not only about good design. Remarkably for such a young brand, they have also achieved an enviable reputation for toughness and reliability and all models are officially chronometer certified.
Another very important reason for Bremont’s success is their technological innovations.
All of their watches are built with a specially treated steel with seven times the hardness of the normal stainless steel used for watch cases.
The watch cases themselves are in a patented 3 part construction that is unique to Bremont.
If you add to that the pioneering anti-shock system used in some of their watches and the patented Roto-click bezel technology, you can see that Bremont are playing their part in the advancement of watch-making technology.
Britain and British watchmakers have in the past made a very important contribution to the progress of timekeeping, and Bremont are very keen to develop the skills and technological know-how to re-establish Britain as a high end watch manufacturing country.
Bremont stated goal is ‘to bring back as much of the manufacturing process to the UK as possible’.
Their watches are all designed, manufactured and assembled in England. That includes most of the bespoke parts used in the limited editions, as well as the beautifully hand-made leather packaging.
Bremont in 2014 launched a new facility in Silverstone to produce watch-case and movement components and work alongside the Henley based design and assembly facility.
Bremont have also made some very interesting work in collaboration with car manufacturer Jaguar, fighter plane ejection seat manufacturer Martin Baker and aviation giants Boeing.
The watches inspired by these collaborations are truly remarkable and express Bremont’s exceedingly high standards.
